Dequien Knight. An 18-year old accused of shooting a man several times in an apparent robbery attempt in Bessemer will be seeking youthful offender status.
Suspect Dequien Knight was in a Bessemer courtroom Tuesday afternoon. Knight's attorney waived his right for a preliminary hearing and the case was sent on to the grand jury.
"The case was sent to the grand jury to be bound over. The grand jury will indict him. Then [the] first thing we will apply for is youthful offender. Then we will see what the court will do," Emory Anthony, Knight's attorney, said.
Knight is accused of killing 52-year-old Jimmy Hudson. The alleged incident occurred in the Flintridge Centre Parking lot in Fairfield on August 9.
Knight turned himself in to police and was charged with murder.
