
Tremain Vanteas GatesCalera police have charged a man with capital murder in the death of his three-month-old son.
Wednesday, a capital murder warrant was obtained against Tremain Vanteas Gates, 23, of Calera. The case was originally investigated as a domestic violence case and turned into a homicide investigation Tuesday after the baby died from his injuries.
Today for the first time, Calera police confirmed that Tremaine Gates is the father of the infant victim. Police identified the victim as Tremaine James Gates, Jr.
Last week, police made it public that they had arrested and charged Tremain Vanteas Gates for domestic violence-assault. He is accused of throwing the three-month-old male infant against a wall and also dropping him on the floor.
Gates was allegedly watching the child the evening of Aug. 25. When the infant's mother came home the next day, she noticed that the child was not well and took him to a local hospital. Physicians there had the child airlifted to Children's Hospital in Birmingham.
Gates was arrested Aug. 29 is still in custody of the Shelby County Jail. He is being held on no bond.
