The demand for Apple's iPhone 5 is huge.
If you decide to upgrade, you have several options of what to do with your old phone. Of course you can hold onto it for nostalgia sake or you might want to give it or sell it to someone who doesn't have one at all.
But there's also the buyback option, and at least for one store, using that option could land you enough money to cover the cost of your upgrade.
Will Dow admits it: he's an iPhone fanatic.
"It's just really easy to use. I listen to music at work, get my emails...just about anything," he said.
He's had the iPhone 3, currently has the iPhone 4s and when his contract ends in a month, he'll upgrade to the iPhone 5.
"Just being a gadget nerd, it will be the cool new thing to have and eight months from now when they come out with a new one, it'll feel obsolete and I'll feel the need to upgrade again," Dow said.
But what do you do with all those old phones?
Phone Restore in Homewood has an option. They'll buy back your iPhone--any model you have.
"We'll do a hardware run down, make sure pieces of the phone work. We'll check for water damage, anything like that," Roberto Rodriguez said.
They'll then give you a quote that will last a week. For an example of pricing, Rodriguez says an iPhone 4 in moderately good condition may get you about $150. But regardless of the condition, he says you will get something.
Dow says in the past, he's sold his old phones on Ebay. But hearing he might be able to sell it to a local store for the same price of an upgrade certainly piques his interest.
"If they can do it great. I'd love to get one and not pay for it," Dow said.
Phone Restore will buy back any iPhone, even if it doesn't work. They'll take the parts from it, refurbish it, and then return it to the market, mainly to places where iPhones are hard to come by.
Pre-orders for the iPhone 5 started today. The phones officially go on sale Sept. 21.
