The victim has been identified as Xy-Kel Williams.
Tuscaloosa Police say Williams ran out into 15th Street at 33rd Avenue around 6:35 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14. A person driving a 2000 Lexus traveling east on 15th Street swerved, but was unable to avoid hitting the child, Sgt. Brent Blankley with TPD said in a release.
At the time of the accident, the girl was in the care of her 15-year-old aunt. Police say the aunt had crossed multiple lanes of traffic to get to a store across the street when the child ran into the road.
"The driver will not be charged in the case as it was determined she could not avoid hitting the child," Blankley stated.
Witnesses say the driver of the Lexus was not speeding at the time of the accident.
Williams was declared dead at DCH Regional Medical Center.
