ETOWAH COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

The Etowah County Sheriff's Office says they have charged a man in connection to a felony theft offense.

According to investigator Shane Hartley, 40-year-old David Wayne Morris was arrested on Thursday and faces one count of first degree theft of property.

Morris is believed to have gone to a resident on Highway 278 East and taken items such as a refrigerator, exercise bicycle, electric motor, filing cabinet and storage shelves into his truck. A neighbor witnessed the incident and called the homeowner, who then reported it to the Sheriff's Office. The neighbor provided a detailed description to deputies.

Deputy Charles McKinney spotted the vehicle a short time later at a convenience store. He found a receipt from a local scrap yard. The stolen property was located at the scrap yard.

Morris is being held in the Etowah County Detention Center on a $5,000 bond.
