The following are coments to an editorial from FOX6 WBRC-TV General Manager Lou Kirchen, first aired on Thursday, October 11, 2012:
Fran from Hoover
I so agree with Lou. Education must begin at home. If parents and/or all family members responsible for these school age children do not promote importance of education on a young level, we're all going to pay....most importantly, the children. What happened to respect in the home and school? My parents always wanted better for me than they were given as far as education. I think some parents these days need some discipline as well.
Chris from Alabaster
I don't totally agree with that about the high school dropout. I am a high school dropout but I did get my GED. I'm actually probably making more money than most of the teachers that were at my high school. I have a good job, a good reputable job, an honorable job being a career firefighter, also with an EMT program. I've done several things beyond the fire department as well. I mean, I'm living comfortably. It just goes to show you somebody's willing and dedicated sticks with it you can accomplish anything even if you are a high school dropout.
