Insurance premiums on the rise for Calhoun County workers

Insurance premiums will be increasing for county workers in Calhoun County. Those premiums will go up 4.5 percent beginning with their next paychecks.

County officials are reporting a sharp increase in the number of claims filed by employees, with the costs going up as much as $300,000 recently.

County officials say the increase is meant to offset the costs of those claims.

Calhoun County self-insures its workers, with workers paying 40 percent of the costs and the county picking up the other 60.
