At the McWane Center this morning Jim Hansen, regional president of PNC Bank, announced that the bank will make a $250,000 grant to be shared between the McWane Center, JCCEO and Childcare Resources.
The money is intended to help the three organizations improve early science learning. Joan Wright, who runs Childcare Resources, says they have developed "theme kits" for pre-school teachers.
"These are boxes that include games and activities and materials to do those games and activities to engage the children in fun, science-learning activities. [They] also help the teachers to know how to respond to the childrens natural questions that they'll be asking about how did this happen, why did that happen, so to support the teachers and give them confidence in being able to speak to the children," Wright said.
The grant is an element of PNC Bank's "Grow Up Great" initiative, which seeks to help parents, caregivers and communities prepare pre-school children for school.
