Alabama wins over a scrappy Ole Miss, 33-14

TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) -

The Crimson Tide found more of a challenge than expected in the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday. Alabama pulled out the win, but the team that was deemed invincible started to show a few cracks.

In the first quarter, the Crimson Tide started off with a few field goals from kicker Jeremy Shelley. Both kicks were set at 38-yards and both were good. The first one was made at 7:17 in the first quarter. The second bounced off the upright, but still managed to make it through at the 3:03 mark.

Ole Miss managed to shock Alabama by being the first team in the game to grab a touchdown. Using a hurry-up offense to keep Bama on their toes, the Rebels drove for 13-plays across 75 yards. Jeff Scott finished up the drive with a 1-yard rush across the goal line with 13:40 remaining in the half. Bryson Rose kicked the extra point to give Ole Miss a 1-point lead over Alabama.

The lead didn't last for long. Bama's Christion Jones decided it was time for a Tide touchdown and ran back an amazing 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Jeremy Shelley's kick was good and brought the score to 13-7 in Alabama's favor.

Alabama followed this up with two more touchdowns before going into halftime. After Bama's Dee Milliner intercepted a Bo Wallace pass, the Tide offense took two plays before A.J. McCarron landed a 16-yard pass into the arms of Amari Cooper for the score. Cooper returned to the endzone with 1:37 remaining in the half, capping off a 13-play drive across 68 yards. This time, Cooper caught a 12-yard McCarron pass. Shelley's kicks were good on both touchdowns and brought the score to 27-7 going into the locker room.

Ole Miss was not out of the game and found some steam after halftime. On their second possession of the half, the Rebels made a strong drive for 15 plays across 70 yards for a touchdown. The score was made by Randall Mackey with a 12-yard rush at 6:35 in the third quarter. The Bryson Rose kick brought the score up to 27-14.

In the beginning of the 4th quarter, Alabama grabbed another field goal. After a 13-play drive, the Tide found themselves facing 4th down and 4 on the Mississippi 8. Jeremy Shelley was called in and kicked the 26-yard field goal. This brought Alabama's score to 30. Another Jeremy Shelley kick gave Alabama an even bigger lead when Shelley kicked a 24-yarder with 1:41 remaining in the game. This wrapped up the game at 33-14 for Alabama.

Alabama takes a break next week before traveling to play Missouri on October 13th.
