Today is the deadline for the Birmingham School Board to send off documentation on how it plans to move forward.
The board faces an investigation from Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). SACS sent the board a letter, stating board members failed to follow policies and directives and overstepped their roles and responsibilities.
SACS has confirmed that the Birmingham School System
has made the deadline to respond to the accrediting agency's concerns. This
morning on Good Day Alabama, Dr. Mark Elgart says he received the board's
resolution, but it is not enough. Dr. Elgart says the next step is he will
respond to the board's resolution, outlining what else needs to happen.
Elgart says board members need training to learn the difference between governing and getting too involved with day to day operations of schools.
SACS also indicated that the system's accreditation could be in jeopardy.
