Deputies say they received a call about the accident just before 8 p.m. on Highway 280 on Monday night near the Chelsea Crossroads shopping area. One occupant was trapped by her vehicle and had to be extricated by rescue personnel before being airlifted to a local hospital. Her injuries are serious, but she is expected to recover.
A witness was able to give a description of the vehicle that left the scene. A Shelby County patrol lieutenant observed the vehicle at a motel parking lot around 1:15 a.m. The owner of the vehicle, 29-year-old Jill Michelle McReath, was found at the motel and was determined to have been driving at the time of the accident.
McReath faces a charge of Failing to Immediately Report an Accident. She was transported to the Shelby County Jail and is being held on a $5,000 bond.
The investigation is ongoing. Once it is complete, a review of the facts will determine if McReath faces any additional charges.
