A Birmingham police officer has been cleared of assault charges.
In August, Andrew Edison was charged with first degree assault after getting into a fight with his cousin. Edison was supposed to have a preliminary hearing on the matter today. However, prosecutors say they received a call from Edison's cousin saying he wanted to drop the charges.
Edison has been a Birmingham officer for 11 years. Gis attorney says because of his job, the allegations have put a black mark on his reputation.
"You're under a lot of scrutiny. It's almost like you're guilty until proven innocent. Not the way our system works. So now Andrew has to work to get his life back...and this will all work out for everybody," said Stewart Springer.
Edison was assigned to administrative duties once the charges were filed. His attorney expects he will be fully reinstated.
