BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Birmingham Mayor William Bell saw firsthand the renovations going on at the East Pinson Valley Recreation Center today. The recreation center is under construction and is scheduled to open to the public on November 3.

The center is located on the Jefferson State Community College campus and will include an Olympic-size swimming pool, indoor track, tennis courts, a softball field, a baseball field, offices and classrooms, according to the mayor's office.

Once it opens, the facility will provide a place for people in the Sun Valley, Echo Highlands, Bridlewood, Apple Valley and Pine Knoll Vista neighborhoods to exercise, take a class or play sports.

"The possibilities for the center are endless," Bell said in a release. "We want the citizens' input on what is needed and what is desired."

Plans for the Recreation Center include programs ranging from GED classes to team sports to classes for senior citizens, the mayor's office said.
