Judge allows more time before 33 dogs are put down

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

A judge has allowed 33 Rottweiler dogs seized from a home in Leeds more time before possibly being put down.

Today, a St. Clair County judge stopped the animals from being euthanized, at least until a hearing can be held Oct. 30.

A veterinarian who treated the animals asked the judge to hold off on his order to put down the dogs because she believes most of them are adoptable.

The dogs were seized last month after two other Rottweilers, belonging to the same owner, attacked and killed an 83-year old man.

The dogs are currently in the care of the Birmingham Jefferson County Animal Control.

If these dogs are saved from euthanasia, they will not be adopted out immediately. An out of state Rottweiler rescue group says they are willing to take the dogs and make sure they are fully rehabilitated before being adopted.

Of the 33 dogs seized, those who work with the dogs daily feel at least 31 will pass the temperament test.
