Hector Aragon Vasquez, 20, of Mexico was charged with drug trafficking after being arrested in Albertville on Friday. Officials say he allegedly kept meth in Marshall County. Drug-sniffing dogs notified officers of the drugs inside Vasquez' vehicle, and officials say it was so well hidden, they had to dismantle the entire vehicle to find it.
Officers seized three packages of high quality meth weighing a total of about three and a half pounds. They also seized an undisclosed amount of cash.
The sheriff's office said in a press conference Monday that five law enforcement agencies had been investigating Vasquez for three and a half weeks. When they arrested him, they did not find any weapons inside his vehicle.
Vasquez is being held in the Etowah County Jail on a $500,000 bond. Depending on his sentence, he could face deportation if he is released from prison. According to the sheriff's office website, he was booked into the Etowah County Jail on Oct. 5.
Investigators say more arrests connected to this case could be made within a couple of weeks.
