Verizon Wireless announced today they will expand their 4G LTE network coverage in the Tuscaloosa area and launch 4G coverage in Gadsden next week. The company also said 4G coverage will be available in Selma by the end of 2012.
Starting Thursday, Oct. 18, Verizon will expand its 4G coverage to include Northport, Duncanville, Fosters, Coaling and the Mercedes Plant located in Vance. The 4G LTE network is already available to customers within the city of Tuscaloosa, including the University of Alabama and parts of downtown Northport, Cottondale and Alberta City.
Verizon will also launch 4G coverage in the Gadsden area on Oct. 18. Verizon Wireless customers who live in Gadsden, Attalla, Hokes Bluff, Glencoe, Southside and Rainbow City will have access to the 4G network once the service launches. The Verizon Wireless store on North Hood Avenue will have an event on Oct. 18 to celebrate the launch of 4G coverage in Gadsden.
The company says its 4G speeds are 10 times faster than the current 3G network.
"With our 4G LTE network, customers can take advantage of the speed offered by our 4G LTE devices and the innovative solutions that leverage 4G LTE technology to enhance connectivity," Jonathan LeCompte, president of the Verizon Wireless Georgia/Alabama Region said in a press release.
"Our aggressive 4G LTE deployment strategy has enabled us to provide customers with the best wireless data experience possible, and we will continue to strengthen and expand our network to provide consistently outstanding 4G LTE speeds," LeCompte added.
The company is planning to launch its 4G LTE coverage to a total of 21 new markets on October 18 and is preparing to expand it in 30 additional new markets before the end of the year.
