
The coroner's office says an 83-year-old woman found dead in her home on Saturday died as the result of blunt force trauma.
Birmingham fire and rescue officials found the body of Annie Sharpe, 83, inside her Wylam home after police officer conducted a welfare check around 1 p.m. Oct. 6.
The BFR responders went to the home in the 4500 block of 12th Avenue and had to force entry into the residence. They found Sharpe lying on the floor, unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office reported on Tuesday, Oct. 9 that Sharpe suffered from blunt force trauma. The Birmingham Police Department is now investigating her death as a homicide.
So far, no arrests have been made in the case. Anyone with information about the case is asked call Birmingham police at 205-254-1764.
