A runoff election in Fairfield may get a recount.
The incumbent Mayor of Fairfield, Kenneth Coachman, won Tuesday's runoff election by 35 votes. His challenger, Councilman Frederick Scott, received 954 votes while Coachman got 989. Because it was so close, Scott says he is going to ask for a recount.
Scott says he noticed some voting irregularities during the primary election in August. He filed a complaint with the state attorney general's office but he has not heard anything back. Scott says he noticed some of the same irregularities in the runoff, so he is challenging the results.
"Numbers are not adding up, so will I ask for a recount? Yes. They need to know that now. I'm not going out. If you beat me, beat me fair, but you're not going to cheat and beat me," said Scott.
