A Clayton man charged with kidnapping a minor made his first appearance in court Wednesday. Charles Dean Partin, 36, allegedly kidnapped a minor female in Dothan in September and eluded police for six days. He was arrested in Ohio Sept. 22 after an Amber Alert was issued for the missing teenager.
The U.S. has moved to detain Partin, U.S. State Attorney George Beck, Jr. said today in a release. A detention hearing has been set for Oct. 17.
If Partin is convicted, he will face a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, a fine up to $250,000 and a supervised release term of no more than five years, according to Beck.
"We must be diligent in keeping our children safe," Beck stated. "Our office will continue to work with all law enforcement to assure the safety of our children."
The FBI is investigating this case.
