It happened in a north Birmingham neighborhood on Wednesday, just before six p.m. The fire occurred at a vacant house, but it quickly spread to Danny McDuffie's house right next door. He says he was inside with family, and when they stepped outside, they noticed the flames building on his house. The family had only lived in the home for about a month..
"We just got the water on, so I was actually trying to spray it down form getting to this house," said Danny. "I see it had gotten to the roof. There was nothing I could do then."
50% of Danny's home was damaged structurally. There was 100% smoke damage to the home. The vacant home is a complete loss.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
