HUEYTOWN, AL (WBRC) -

The Hueytown Fire Department responded to a home on Edwards Street near Dolomite but instead of fighting an active fire, they discovered a deceased woman.

Officials have identified the victim as 32-year-old Dana Lynn Smith. She lived at the home on Edwards Street with her boyfriend and authorities say he was the one who discovered her body.

Officials say the boyfriend arrived home around 10 a.m. Tuesday and he found a small fire that had been contained mostly to the kitchen.

Knowing his girlfriend should have been at home asleep at the time, he went to check on her and made the horrible discovery.

At this time, the coroner is still conducting his autopsy, but says it initially appears the Smith died of smoke inhalation. He doesn't believe there was any foul play involved.

The Hueytown Fire Marshal says there were smoke detectors in the house, but they were still in their packaging and not mounted.
