Editorial: Protestants

The following is an editorial from FOX6 WBRC-TV General Manager Lou Kirchen, first aired on Tuesday, October 23, 2012:

We no longer have a Protestant majority in the US, according to a report by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life, released earlier this month.  The study found that 48% of Americans identify themselves as Protestant.  And, 20% say they have no religious affiliation at all…that's up 5% in the last five years.

Who are the people who say they have no religion?  According to Pew they come from all walks of life…those making less than $30,000 annually and those making $75,000 or more…men and women…with and with-out a college degree.  The study found that one-third of adults under 30 have no religious affiliation versus 9 percent of folks over 65.

What does this mean for our country?  How will it affect the decisions being made in government and by the courts?  Don't all of us worship something…if not God, then success, money, or youth?  What do you think?
