The Spain Park High School students that were stuck in New York during Superstorm Sandy are now back home safely this morning.
The students landed around 9:32 p.m. Thursday night and are thankful to finally be home. They had been in New York for an international mock trial competition. When they heard Hurricane Sandy might hit the Big Apple, they tried to move up their flight but it was cancelled. They rode out the storm in their hotel rooms in Brooklyn.
FOX6 caught up with some of the students when they landed last night.
"We were in the perfect location, we didn't get any bad weather -- just wanting to be home," said Jordan McDonald.
"The worst part was not knowing. Not knowing if flight would be cancelled, not knowing what's going on," said Abby Brunner.
We asked some of the students to come on Good Day Alabama to share their story, but they declined because it has been such a long week for them. They also felt it was important for them to get back to school and concentrate on their school work.
