The Birmingham Police Department is investigating a death after a body was found in the backyard of a home.
Birmingham sanitation workers found the man's body Tuesday morning between two homes in the 4800 block of Terrace R. The man had suffered a gunshot wound. Neighbors said they heard gunshots around 3 a.m. Wednesday.
The victim has been identified as 21-year-old James Otis Holmes. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue.
Investigating officers say Holmes did not live at either residence and was probably just passing through.
The case remains under investigation.
