TUSCALOOSA COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office says a store owner was shot after confronting a person burglarizing his business.

Jeremias Tecpile returned to his business Monday to find a masked man carrying away his cash register. The store is located in the 1600 block of Crescent Ridge Road East in the Holt community.

Rather than turn and run, Tecpile confronted the man and wound up in a shoot out. Both men were armed and exchanged shots. Tecpile was hit three times and is in stable condition at DCH. It's unclear whether or not the suspect was wounded.

The suspect is described as a black male who was wearing a mask at the time of the robbery.

Investigators say there may have been an attempted robbery at the store a month ago. Anyone with information on either crime is asked to call the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office.
