AUBURN, AL (WBRC) -

Auburn Tigers head coach Gene Chizik made it clear Tuesday that his focus this week is on winning -- but the win needs to be for his 13 senior players.

"We've got a great opportunity for us to be able to really concentrate on sending the senior class out on a positive note. That's very important for me," he said.

The team started practice for this weekend's game against Alabama A&M last Sunday. The spectre of the Tiger's season hung over Tuesday's meeting but Chizik had a practical view to share.

"Everybody would love to be able to say they cruised through their life with relatively few valleys that you have to hit and very few storms you have to endure and push through…but that's not real," Chizik said.

He said his players are strong men and will be able to go on and draw from the incredible highs, like winning a National Championship, as well as the lows of their years at Auburn.

And what about the fans? Chizik says he's received "hundreds" of emails of support to balance the fans who are "so caught up in winning and losing." As a coach he says that both perspectives are right in their views. For him, it's part of the business of sports where winning and losing are the end all, be all.

"If that hurts your feelings you shouldn't be a player or a coach. It comes with the territory...college, NFL, high school," Chizik said.

As talk of coaching changes continue, Chizik will continue to help the team focus on the game against Alabama A&M. Kick off is set for 1:30 p.m.
