Jefferson County Commissioners could soon get better insight on how to settle its debt crisis.
Jefferson County Commission President David Carrington and County Commissioner Jimmie Stephens are now in California to meet with some of the county's major creditors. They will discuss plans to get out of bankruptcy.
The trip comes one week after the commission voted to raise sewer rates for the first time in four years. The commissioners must come back and work with the rest of the commission to develop their final plan of adjustment to get out of bankruptcy.
