Iowa man charged with rape in Gadsden

GADSDEN, AL (WBRC) -

A man from Iowa has been jailed on a rape charge in Gadsden. Police served a warrant for the arrest of Anthony Joseph Poppen, 27, on Tuesday, Nov. 13.

Poppen, originally from Ames, IA, is a suspect in the rape of a 26-year-old female that allegedly happened on Sunday, Nov. 11.

The victim reported that she left Babe's Lounge with three men who then took her to a local hotel and raped her, Captain Bobby Jackson with Gadsden Police said.

Poppen has been charged with first degree rape. He is being held in the Etowah County Jail on a $25,000 cash bond.
