HOLT, AL (WBRC) -

Tuscaloosa Police say the suspect who allegedly shot a Holt store owner may also be injured - and they need help finding that person.

Jeremias Tecpile, the store owner, remains in the hospital with life threatening injuries after being shot three times.

The shooting happened around 4 p.m. Monday at his store on Crescent Ridge Road in Holt. Tecpile confronted the suspect as he was stealing the cash register. Both had guns and exchanged fire outside the business. Investigators have confirmed through other sources that Tecpile may have shot the suspect.

Authorities are asking customers who were shopping at the nearby Dollar General at that time to call them.

"We were told by the victim initially, that he fired upon the suspect and he thought he hit him. The suspect then limped away. We had another source tell us basically the same thing," Tuscaloosa Metro Homicide Unit Captain Loyd Baker said.

Authorities are checking area hospitals and clinics for someone who may have come in with similar injuries. As for Tecpile, authorities says he "took a turn for the worse Wednesday with internal injuries more serious that originally thought."
