Woodlawn business damaged by fire

When Birmingham firemen arrived to Independent Tire and Auto Center in the 6900 block of 1st Avenue North, heavy black smoke was billowing from its metal roof.

The fire started around 6pm Thursday evening and within about 20 minutes, firefighters had the blaze contained and under control. But in those 20 minutes, the business sustained heavy smoke and water damage.

The business wasn't open when the fire started and no one was hurt.

Investigators are trying to determine the cause.
