Christmas tree sales pick up after Thanksgiving

VESTAVIA HILLS, AL (WBRC) -

Along with football and shopping, many folks across Alabama are taking part in another post-Thanksgiving tradition: buying their Christmas tree.

The lot was full at lunchtime on Friday at the "Over the Mountain Boy Scouts" Christmas tree sale in Vestavia Hills.

Scouts and volunteers have been busy all week setting up. For many, picking out that perfect tree is an old family tradition. For others, like Russell Pate and his new bride, it's the beginning of a new tradition.

"We bought a tree while we were engaged last year for the first time. I grew up in an artificial tree home, my wife grew up in a real tree home, so we are adopting that," he said.
