Partin indicted for traveling out of state to engage in sex with

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Charles Dean Partin, the man who led authorities on a multi-state chase after allegedly kidnapping a minor, has been indicted on charges of transporting a minor victim from Alabama to Tennessee with the intent to engage in sexual activity.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, 36-year-old Partin was arraigned today in Montgomery.

A release issued by U.S. Attorney George Beck states that Partin was detained without bond at a hearing on October 31, 2012. At that hearing, an FBI agent testified that Partin knew and/or believed that he was being investigating by the Alabama Department of Human Resources for having an improper relationship with a minor.

In order to get away from the DHR investigation, Partin took the minor from Alabama to Tennessee. While in Tennessee, a park ranger observed Partin and the minor involved in a sexual act.

That minor was placed into Tennessee DHR custody and transferred back to Alabama. Approximately 13 days after the minor returned to Alabama, Partin removed the minor from DHR custody.

An Amber Alert was issued for the minor's return. The release states that soon after the child was removed, Partin stole a vehicle in Dothan and drove to Texas with the minor to avoid police. Partin and the minor were ultimately captured in Ohio where Partin was arrested.

If convicted, Partin faces a sentence of at least ten years in prison, a fine of not more than $250,000 and five years of supervised release.
