File photoThis year's West Nile virus cases in Alabama broke the record that was set in 2002.
According to state health officers, the state has 51 confirmed cases of the mosquito-borne illness.
The previous high was in 2002 when Alabama saw 49 cases.
As of right now, there are only two cases in North Alabama; one in Madison County and the other in Lauderdale County.
Montgomery County is reporting 11 cases - the most in the state.
