Absolutely Alabama: Kelley Fitzpatrick Memorial Art Gallery

Kelly Fitzpatrick started the Wetumpka Art Colony on Lake Jordan in the 1930s to help encourage artists who were struggling due to Hard Times, aka The Great Depression, a problem many artists experience today due to difficult economic conditions.

The Gallery is meant to encourage Alabama artists and bring them together to share works, ideas and help foster a sense of creativity in that Community.

Historically the Wetumpka Art Colony is important because of the many artists it helped encourage and promote, including Frank Appleby, who founded the School of Architecture at Alabama Polytechnic Institute. It's now known as Auburn University.

The featured show at the Gallery now is called Serving Up The South and is done in conjunction with the Year of Alabama Food.
