TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

Tiftarea outfielder Dustin McAlpin truly understands how fortunate he is to sign a college scholarship.

Dustin McAlpin, known simply as Nuke by his teammates, signed to play at Indian River Community College Thursday afternoon in Chula.

McAlpin has been a starter since his freshman season and is a two time all-region player for the Panthers program.

Dustin's older brother Austin, who signed with Middle Georgia, had his career end due to an illness.

Dustin says his older brother Austin is his inspiration in every game he plays.

"I know in my heart he would give anything to have the opportunity to still be playing. For me to have the opportunity to still be playing. It is truly an honor and truly a blessing. Don't take anything for granted. Play ever game as if it were your last," said Dustin McAlpin.

Tiftarea has a new head baseball coach.

Brad Porter is now the Panthers head coach and former coach Chris Howell is the pitching coach at Middle Georgia College.
