If the chairman of Alabama's Republican party wants to keep his job, he's going to have to fight off a slate of powerful elected officials from within his own party.
Chairman Bill Armistead announced last week that he is seeking re-election.
But late last week, Governor Robert Bentley and House Speaker Mike Hubbard endorsed attorney Matt Fridy of Birmingham for the job.
Some Republicans are not taking sides yet. Today, the co-chair of the Jefferson County delegation, representative Paul DeMarco, refused to endorse either man.
"I think it's natural. The party has grown in Alabama with all the statewide elected officials, so I think that's just natural that you would have a contest between folks leading the party, and so between now and February everybody will sit down and hear all sides of the issues," DeMarco said.
