BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office says they have arrested two suspects in connection to a robbery. One of the suspects was apprehended after a three hour standoff in Rainbow City.

Deputies say on Sunday around 7:32 a.m, two Hispanic males were at A.J.'s Bar and Grill when two white males approached them in the parking lot asking for money. The vicitms declined to give them money and left in their vehicle. While on Choccolocco Road, a vehicle pulled up beside them and forced them to stop on the shoulder of the road. The white males from the parking lot exited the vehicle and approached with sticks, breaking out the passenger side window of the victim's vehicle. The victims were able to pull away and drove to a home on Choccolocco Road to ask for help. The suspects followed and began chasing the victims through the yard until the homeowner came outside.

Deputies arrested Kevin Scott Laurence of Pell City at the scene for 1st degree assault and robbery in the 1st and 3rd degrees. The second suspect, Brian Mason Carnes, left the scene before deputies arrived.

On Wednesday morning, Etowah County deputies located Carnes at a home at 3014 Lakewood Drive in Rainbow City. They attempted to serve him with a Calhoun County warrant for a 1st and 3rd degree robbery, but Carnes barricaded himself inside the home with 2 hostages.

The hostages, a brother and sister who were both acquaintances of Carnes, were released shortly after midnight. An officer with the Fugitive Task Force negotiated with Carnes. Carnes emerged from the residence around 3 a.m. and was taken into custody.

Carnes is being held in the Etowah County Detention Center and is awaiting transfer to Calhoun County.
