A lot of couples in Jefferson County and across the world are taking advantage of 12-12-12. The sequential numbers will not line up like today for almost another hundred years.
Today on December 12, 2012, couples were lining up to get married at the Jefferson County Courthouse to take advantage of the rare occurrence. This included Eduardo Cruz and his new bride, Araceli.
"This is a special day. It's a birthday of my mom. That's why," Cruz said.
Jefferson County Probate Judge Alan King says Valentine's Day remains the number one day to get married, but more people are taking advantage of today's date.
"I think it's a great day to get married. It's easier for husbands to remember their anniversary. They won't have any excuses from this part forward," King said.
Birmingham firefighters Cory DeWayne Moon and his new wife Charnessa picked 12-12-12 as their special day in part because of that reason.
"It was my choice, to remember the day so I can remember it for an anniversary," Moon said.
While the date may be magical, most of the couples will tell you at least for today, they all feel lucky.
"It's absolutely a special day for us now. We will never forget this day," Moon said.
Normally at the county courthouse about seven or eight couples get married each day. Wednesday, the number doubled to more than 15.
