Alabama Governor Robert Bentley and other members of the ASU Board of Trustees met to approve a new audit.Three Alabama State legislators have submitted a request for school financial records under the Freedom of Information Act in wake of the recent upheaval at Alabama State University.
The request, which was submitted Tuesday by Sen. Dick Brewbaker, R - Montgomery, Rep. Jay Love, R - Montgomery, and Sen. Trip Pittman, R - Daphne, asks to "identify all contracts, subcontracts, expenditures, and other relationships between Alabama State University and public officials and their family members."
The request states that as the chairs of the House and Senate committees responsible for education policy and budgeting, the legislators believe it is their duty to reassure the public of the transparency of contractual expenditures at state educational institutions.
This request comes in response to the Alabama State University Board of Trustees' decision to place ASU President, Dr. Joseph Silver, on paid administrative leave in November.
A new audit of ASU's finances was approved at a Nov. 30 board meeting in wake of allegations of impropriety made by Dr. Silver.
