Tuscaloosa County commissioners have approved a sales tax holiday for items used to prepare for severe weather. Source: MGN OnlineToday Tuscaloosa County commissioners voted to have a sales tax holiday for severe weather preparedness.
It coincides with the sales tax holiday the state has already planned in February next year, in response to the April 27 tornado.
The public will be able to buy supplies like batteries, flashlights and more tax free.
"It's an encouragement for folks to get prepared and if this little bit of incentive will help folks prepare for severe weather situations and for emergencies then it will be worth it," Judge Hardy McCollum said.
That sales tax holiday is set for the weekend of February 22-24, 2013. For more details on the items that will be tax free during that weekend, visit http://www.revenue.alabama.gov/salestax/WPSalesTaxHol.htm.
