Governor Robert Bentley will visit the University of Montevallo Thursday for an announcement about a new virtual mapping tool the school is implementing.
The Virtual Alabama system provides detailed mapping and other information the can be used by law enforcement and first responders during an emergency. It can also be used to facilitate daily operations on campus.
The university says it will be the first one in the nation to "fully implement a virtual tool to completely map its grounds and buildings to facilitate emergency management as well as day-to-day operations."
Today's news conference will include a video demonstration of the Virtual Alabama system. Gov. Bentley, UM's president John Stewart II and the board of trustees chair Todd Strange are among the speakers expected at the event.
The event starts at 2:30 p.m. in Wills Hall on the University of Montevallo's campus.
