Gun control is a hot topic in light of the Connecticut shooting.
Gun store ‘Hoover Tactical' says guns sales have actually increased since Friday. Gene Smith says one wall that was full before Friday is now almost empty. He says the increase is mostly from people looking to protect themselves.
Smith says Hoover Tactical does all it can to keep guns out of the hands of people with mental illness, but he claims the system is flawed.
"We cant contact hospitals or physicians to talk about their patient list. In fact, it's gotten harder to do that rather than easier because of the federal HIPPA laws," said Smith.
HIPPA laws also prevent schools from releasing health information.
Smith believes another problem is agencies not communicating with each other. He says one agency may be aware of someone's mental illness and fail to report that information.
