6 hospitals agree to treat former Cooper Green patients

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Jefferson County officials have released more details about Cooper Green Mercy Hospital's transition away from inpatient care services.

According to Jefferson County Manager Tony Petelos the transition of the hospital into an urgent and primary care center is on schedule.

Petelos says six hospitals have signed "memorandums of understanding" to cover indigent emergency and inpatient care in Jefferson County.

Those hospitals are:

UAB

UAB South Highlands

UAB West

St. Vincent's

St. Vincent's East

Brookwood

Beginning Jan. 1 Cooper Green will open its urgent care center. Their outpatient services will continue as they have before the transition.
