BESSEMER, AL (WBRC) -

Bessemer Police arrested two teens accused of snatching a woman's purse in a shopping center parking lot on Christmas Eve.

Lt. Darron Hunter with BDP says the female victim was loading packages into her car's trunk at the West Town Plaza when an armed man approached her. The man pointed the gun at her waist and demanded her purse, Hunter said. The incident happened around 11:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 24.

Police say the armed suspect grabbed the woman's purse, then jumped into the backseat of a burgundy colored PT Cruiser that had two other males inside. The suspects drove south on 9th Avenue North and police caught up with them when they turned into a parking lot of a Motel 6.

All three suspects jumped out of the car and fled on foot. Police officers caught the car's driver after a short foot chase and arrested the other two suspects in a room at the motel.

Lt. Hunter said they recovered the victim's purse and the weapon that was used in the robbery.

Police charged suspects Raymond Thompson, 18, and Avery Jackson, 18, with first degree robbery in connection to the case. They each have a bond of $60,000. Both suspects are from Birmingham.
