Beware of tow zones on New Year's Eve

You may want to watch where you park if you're ringing in the new year in downtown Birmingham.

There are a number of tow away zones near popular hangout spots, particularly in Southside, Lakeview and the loft district. City councilman Johnathan Austin says the city is working on new guidelines for towing companies after several complaints that the companies are too aggressive and charge several hundred dollars to turn over a vehicle.

Austin says the new guidelines will go before the council within the next couple of weeks.
