BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The Birmingham Water Works has issued a boil water alert after a water main break along Highway 78 in Forestdale.

Workers are out now repairing the 16-inch break and expect to complete work around 11 p.m. Wednesday. They say the break has decreased water pressure in several areas.

As a precaution, the BWWB has issued a boil water alert for the following areas until further notice. Residents should boil water for 10 minutes and let it cool before drinking. The water is considered safe for other purposes.

• Blackmon Circle

• Cedarcrest Drive

• Cherry Avenue, west of Brandy Lane

• Heflin Avenue

• Tomahawk Drive

• Tower Drive

• US Hwy-78 west of Chickasaw Drive
