Tuscaloosa tattoo artist shot in 5 Points expected to recover

A Tuscaloosa tattoo artist shot after leaving a New Year's Eve party in Five Points South is expected to recover.

Police say Paul Thomas was involved in an altercation with another man, who ended up getting kicked out of the bar. When Thomas and his friends left, police say the suspect was waiting outside and shot Thomas.

Police have not released the suspect's name pending charges.

Support for Thomas is pouring in from friends who have heard about the shooting. Donations for him are being accepted at Evol Ink in Tuscaloosa or through PayPal at paulthomasbenefit@gmail.com.

A benefit concert for Thomas has also been organized. It will be held at The Nick in Birmingham Jan. 10.
