PINSON, AL (WBRC) -
The teenage driver killed in a wreck near Pinson Valley High School on Saturday afternoon has been identified.
Stephen Jordan Long, a 17-year-old from Pinson, died in the wreck, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
Three other teenage boys were in the car at the time of the accident. One passenger was airlifted to a hospital to be treated for critical injuries. The other two teens were treated on the scene for minor injuries.
Deputies say Long lost control of the car and it left the roadway and went down a hill near Faucett Cut-Off Road and Alabama Highway 75. It happened around 2:45 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5.
The crash is still under investigation, but law enforcement officials believe speed was a contributing factor.
Counselors and youth pastors were on hand at the high school to speak with students today and a memorial was set up in front of the school.
