The following are comments to an editorial from FOX6 WBRC-TV General Manager Lou Kirchen, first aired Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013:
We need to cut wasteful spending. We need to start with foreign aide. We need to feed the hungry but not finance dictatorship. We need to cut the amount we give the UN, other countries need to do their fair share. Government groups and departments should have budgets and follow them. They should not be given a blank check. Social Security and Medicare should not be given to people who come to our country, never work in our country and are able to receive social security and medicare from a former spouse. We need to get our house in order and be more financially responsible.
We need to take care of the debt and we also need to be responsible for ourself. And all people, all people in the United States that work should pay the same amount of taxes, if it's 10%, 20%. And everybody should file taxes, rich or poor. Our politicians need to put money where it is supposed to go. And, I know other countries need help, we need help every once in a while. But on the other hand, why are we in other countries doing something that don't mean much?
Just because other people are underprivileged, no fault of their own, have to rely on food stamps or insurance. They're saying this is the reason we can't balance the budget in the United States. But yet still we can pay for all the senators, president, congressmen, pay their insurance bill and give them millions and millions of dollars every year. So I think it is an unwise commentary to be made.
