Birmingham is taking a piece of its past on the road. The city is commemorating the 50th anniversary of the civil rights events of 1963. To help tell Birmingham's story, the city has designed a traveling exhibit that will visit nine cities this year, starting with Atlanta on Friday. The tour will include artifacts and records and new media components, like iPads where visitors can search to see if family members were involved in the movement.
"It really shows not just what Birmingham was, but what Birmingham is and what we expect it to be 50 years from now. And we're partnering with other cities who had significant events in 1963 and beyond," said Chuck Faush with the city.
If you'd like to see the exhibit right here in Birmingham, just visit the second floor of city hall. To see which cities the exhibit will be in, check out 50yearsforward.com.
